James McPherson to speak at Alexander Street’s ALA
breakfast
Pulitzer Prize winning historian James McPherson will be the
guest speaker at this summer's Alexander Street ALA breakfast on
Sunday, June 24. Dr. McPherson served as an editorial adviser to
Harper’s Weekly: 1857-1912, and is widely acknowledged as one of
the world's foremost experts on the American Civil War.
McPherson's works include The Struggle for Equality,
awarded the
Anisfield-Wolf Award. In 1989, he published his Pulitzer-winning
book, Battle Cry of Freedom. And in 1998 another book, For
Cause and Comrades, received the
Lincoln Prize. In 2002 he published a scholarly book,
Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam 1862, and a history of the Civil
War for children, Fields of Fury.
