TIME: That evening.  Cover closed.  Scene I curtain with song and laughter from MATTIE, LULA and KIDS.
As curtain opens, JULIA has almost finished the unpacking.  The room now looks quite cozy.  
Once in a while she watches the clock and looks out of the window.  TEETA follows PRINCESS out of MATTIE's house 
and ties her sash.  PRINCESS is holding a jump rope.
MATTIE: 	(Offstage.  Sings)
		My best man left me, it sure do grieve my mind
		When I'm laughin', I'm laughin' to keep from
		cryin'....
PRINCESS: 	(Twirling the rope to one side)  Ching, ching,
		China-man eat dead rat...

TEETA: 		(As PRINCESS jumps rope.) Knock him in the head 
		with a baseball bat...

PRINCESS: 	You wanta jump ?

TEETA: 		Yes.

PRINCESS:	Say "Yes, M'am."

TEETA:		No.

PRINCESS:	Why?

TEETA:		You too little.

PRINCESS:	(Takes bean bag from her pocket.)  You can't 
		play with my bean bag.

TEETA:		I 'on care, play it by yourself.
